Michael A. Syrek

Mr. Syrek joined Bank of the James in May 2012. Prior to being named President in the fall of 2021, Mike was responsible for commercial lending and relationship management for the bank. He joined Bank of the James after nine years with SunTrust Bank where he served as a Senior Vice President and Commercial Relationship Banker and oversaw an extensive loan portfolio and a team of relationship managers in Virginia and West Virginia.  From 2008 to 2012 he served as the Lynchburg Market President. Prior to starting his banking career, Mr. Syrek spent nine years in financial accounting holding various executive positions from Controller to Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Syrek is a graduate of James Madison University and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting. He has served on numerous community boards throughout his career and has coached youth teams in soccer, baseball and basketball.
